If there is one thing I have learned as a parent and teacher is that kids thrive on routines, they need routines, they LOVE routines. One way that I have found to keep my day running as smoothly as possible with a 4 1/2 year old and 11 month old, is to incoporate a Job or Chore chart into our day. It's clipped to our fridge and keeps track not only of jobs, but also of screen time. Keeping track of screen time can be a chore all in itself these days. With computer games, Wii Games, videos, etc, children are flooded with screen type activities. Which all have a purpose and I want to encourage, but with limits. The chart also teaches responsibility for ourselves and for our things.
My daughter loves to check off the things she has done, and at the end of the day if she has completed everything and made good choices she gets a star! When she turns in a week with all stars at the bottom she gets to draw a golden ticket from my ticket box. These tickets are "coupons" she can trade in for: Extra computer time, Extra show, Special treat, etc.
I created this chart simply using word on my computer, and it was easy. What's even easier you ask? Getting one already done for you by me! If you would like a copy of the chart above just email me at sugarfootdesigns@gmail.com with chart in subject line, or leave a comment below, or download one here at scribd (if you have scribed account). All I ask is that if you are not a follower you become one or a facebook fan please!
What are some routines at your house that make your life easier?
